In this abbreviated, updated, and revised version of a work first published in Spanish in 2003 (Corte Penal Internacional: Donde Investigar?), Olasolo (International Criminal Court) examines the procedural aspects of the Rome Statute creating the International Criminal Court related to the initiation of a criminal case. After a historical and conceptual introduction to the ICC that pays particular attention to its jurisdictional functions, Olasolo turns to an interpretation of Articles 15, 18, and 53 of the Rome Statute, those related to the procedural regulation of the triggering procedure of the ICC, which can be activated by the Office of the Prosecutor, the United Nations Security Council, or a state party. He argues that the power to initiate an investigation is essentially an additional dimension of jurisdiction and an expression of the Court's cooperative relationship with the Security Council. In the final chapter, he discusses the material prerequisites for the activation of the latent jurisdiction of the ICC. «
