From 1897to 1898 thousands of socalled stampeders came through Seattle on their way tothe Klondike goldfields. Hungry stampeders could purchase a meal at theMerchantas CafAc the oldest cafAc in Seattle or one of the manyrestaurants nearby. For the next 25 years those who made it rich in Seattlewere the restaurateurs shop owners and real estate owners.
