Poetically drawing on theeffects of cultural upheaval on the individual Ahmet Hamdi Tanpinarilluminates the precarious balance between tradition and modernity East andWest. Ahmet Hamdi Tanpinar 19011962 is considered one of the most importantTurkish novelist of the twentieth century. He created a cultural universe in inhis work bringing together a Western literary voice and the sensibilities ofthe Ottoman culture. Erdag Goknar was the recipient of the Oceans Connect Grantand a Fulbright Fellowship. He teaches at Duke University. «
